School Outreach

experiment 2bWith the lifting of pandemic restrictions, USD restarted in-person classroom presentations for the 2022-2023 school year. We look forward to visiting Tri-City schools again in the 2023-2024 school year!

Our 60-minute presentation meets the criteria of Next Generation Science Standards for California public schools by examining concepts of the water cycle and human interactions with water. Participating students learn about watersheds, the differences between sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, and ways to prevent polluting local waterways. We use videos, graphics, and a hands-on activity as learning aids throughout the presentation and we encourage student engagement through question-and-answer sessions.

Teachers who schedule a presentation with USD Environmental Compliance staff receive a complimentary 8-page teacher workbook. The workbook contains supplemental exercises and experiments that can be conducted in the classroom at the educator's own pace. As gifts for the participating students, we provide erasers, recycled rulers, a placemat depicting water pathways, and a wastewater treatment themed activity book to reinforce the lesson!
