Plant Tours
The District offers Wastewater Treatment Plant tours Mondays-Thursdays year-round.*
The tours are available for groups of 5 or more people with a minimum age of 5 years old.
The tour starts with a video presentation about showing the history of sanitation and Union Sanitary District, including highlights of our programs. Then we put on our hard hats and begin the walk. The tour covers most of the accessible areas of the plant including the headworks, clarifiers, aeration basins and digesters. We also stop in at our new cogeneration facility, which is capable of creating 75% of the electricity we use to power the treatment plant.
The tour goes for approximately 2 hours. Visitors are required to wear closed-toed shoes. Be prepared for extensive walking on pavement and within buildings, as well as ascending and descending stairs.
Visitors will be required to complete a liability waiver. Children under 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete their waiver.
Our Plant Tours are currently on-hold due to Enhanced Treatment and Site Upgrade (ETSU) construction activity. For more information on ETSU, click here.
In the meantime, enjoy our Virtual Plant Tour video.
If you have a group of 5 or more and would like to schedule a tour we can work with you on a time and date that suits your group.
